JESSE WHITE TO SEEK THIRD TERM AS STATE REPRESENTATIVE
Jesse White announced today he is seeking a third term to the State House of Representatives. White, a 31 year-old Democrat from Cecil Township, represents the 46th Legislative District, which includes portions of Washington, Allegheny and Beaver Counties. “My experience has made me a better State Representative today than the day I was elected, and I will keep fighting to justify the trust the voters have placed in me,” said White.
White, a licensed attorney, credits his legal background and his experience as a small business owner as an important foundation for his current position. “Not only do I have the background in law, but I also understand what it’s like to keep a budget and meet a payroll every week,” said White. “I have been around long enough to know how to get things done, but not so long I’ve lost the fire in my belly to fight for the people I represent.”
During last year’s budget stalemate, White spoke out in opposition to Governor Rendell’s proposed income tax increase. “I have never had a problem speaking my mind on behalf of the people I represent if I believe it’s the right thing to do,” said White. “And if that means standing up to a governor of my own party to oppose a tax increase, that’s what I’ll continue to do.” Without the support of White and other fiscally conservative Democratic representatives, the tax proposal was ultimately dropped from the budget.
White also cites his position on the powerful House Judiciary Committee as a platform where he can make his voice heard, specifically on the issue of defending the Second Amendment rights of Pennsylvanians. “Sometimes it can be tough to stand up to members of your own party, but protecting the rights of gun owners is something I am passionate about,” said White. “As a member of the Judiciary Committee I have spoken up on behalf of the interests my constituents, and I will continue to do so.”
Back home, Jesse serves on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Health Partners, the advisory board of the Western Area Career and Technology Center, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter advisory board and the Board of Directors of First Book Beaver County. He is a member of Chartiers Lodge No. 297 of F & A.M; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 22; the Alpine Lodge No. 9 and Western Pennsylvania Mensa.
White cited among his accomplishments the establishment of his Economic Resource Program, which includes a full-time grant-writer and other resources freely available to the residents, municipalities and non-profit groups in Washington County. This program, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, has helped bring millions of dollars in grants and loans to the area to create and preserve jobs, develop infrastructure projects and provide much-needed technical assistance to anyone who asks.
White also noted the changes he authored to state law that will bring $4 million in gaming revenue directly to the municipalities of Washington County each year. “I listened to the people I represent, and they wanted more local control of this money. These changes will give much needed funding to our local police and fire departments, keep our roads in good repair and provide safe places for our children to play without the need to raise taxes,” White said.
“I love this job and I hope that the good people of the 46th District will see fit to give me another term to continue fighting for them,” said White. “I have given everything I have to my office and I am confident my constituents continue to recognize my non-stop commitment to being the best State Representative I can be.”
