As much as I enjoy the holidays, there is always something annoying about the way the world shuts down for the two weeks between Christmas and New Year’s. You can never get ahold of the people you need to talk to, and nothing of any consequence gets accomplished. So I was excited for the world to start back up today, only to be greeted by this:
"Two hour delay, no morning kindergarten."
The only reason the internet was invented was to try and replace the gaping hole left by Paul Long in regards to school closings.
But anyhow, I wanted to take a moment to step up on my soapbox regarding an ad I’ve been seeing like crazy on Facebook lately. You’ve probably seen it too:
This ad will take you to a site called www.debtrescueusa.com, which is apparently a credit-counseling service of some sort. That’s fine, but as a Pennsylvania lawmaker and a licensed attorney specializing in bankruptcy law, I haven’t seen any “PA Recession Laws” passed that would make debt settlement any easier.
Closer examination of the site shows it is very vague on details and has no discernible basis in any Pennsylvania law. The issue of credit counseling is confusing enough to begin with, so I get very upset when I see companies try and mislead people in order to get business, especially when they try to make you believe that some silver bullet law has been passed to make it easier.
Don’t buy into the hype on this stuff. Do your homework and realize that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
"You got that right, kid. Now go get me a latte."
